Background & Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for the design and activation of our Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) strategy in North America. The role is responsible for maintaining alignment with the global Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) team and priorities, as well as working with our Canadian unit and purpose-led companies that have recently been acquired by Unilever to ensure alignment on goals and to maximize our collective impact.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The position is expected to play a leadership role in embedding sustainable living within the North America business. The position will liaise closely with the Global Sustainable Business and Communications team (SB&C), drive the sustainable living North America narrative both internally and externally, coordinate, manage and serve as day to day contact with the external US Sustainable Living Advisory Council, and serve as the key internal North America contact and technical expert on the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP). The position is responsible for the creation of strategic Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) initiatives, as well as executing quarterly and annual progress updates, North America commitments to deliver the plan, and employee engagement initiatives and programs. This position serves as the lead manager role to achieve one of North America’s strategic imperatives.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

Manage the agenda, inputs and outputs of the external US Sustainable Living Advisory Council
Play a pivotal role in developing and owning USLP content, identifying and creating strategic partnerships and serving as a key voice on USLP direction
Design and execute the annual USLP progress report event and manage the delivery of quarterly updates on USLP progress in the NA Compass to the US Leadership Team.
Serve as lead to gather and analyze data for external reporting (DJSI, CDP, Walmart Index
Communicate and implement best practices across brands and manufacturing facilities and provide content for social media activations
Help to develop and maintain transformational partnerships and collaborations to drive sustainable living progress
Embed sustainable living into core functions including marketing, finance, human resources, supply chain, procurement and customer development
Collaborate closely with External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs groups to anticipate and manage reputational and regulatory challenges related to sustainability
Partner with customer development to engage customers in joint sustainability planning and provide technical assistance and oversight to retailer reporting requirements
Work with supply chain management to identify and quantify impact of sourcing and logistics programs.
Evaluate opportunities for internal operation improvements to decrease footprint and costs and play a leadership role in delivery

Effectively ensuring all employees have the knowledge and understanding of the USLP in order to embed the objectives of the USLP into their everyday actions and strategy
Evaluate short-term trade-offs vs. long term business objectives with regard to internal and external sustainability initiatives
Maintain a strong understanding of the total North American business and portfolio dynamics in order to provide trusted counsel
Effectively leading initiatives across a large multinational organization
Coordinate multiple requests with conflicting deadlines
Being able to influence others to gain commitment to take action or for corrective action
Manage sensitive and confidential analysis

This Manager leads USLP efforts across all businesses and functions in North America, comprised of the US and Canada.
This position reports to the Director, Sustainable Business and External Affairs, based in Washington, DC and has one direct report (Associate, USLP)
The position also provides support and guidance to VP of Sustainable Business and Corporate Communications, the NA Leadership team and the NA and Canada President.
